#NowPlaying: Heart Shaped Face

I’ve seen you changing

I’ve seen you aging

And I learned how to turn my head

And I learned how to walk away

And the truth never really lives

In the story of the words we say

I can’t say it enough. If you haven’t listened to the crooning of Angel Olsen in MY WOMAN, I recommend you do it now. I think she knows my life.

I haven’t written in a while because I went through a much needed break-up with technology for three weeks during the holidays. Okay, probably not the best when trying to get Tiny Elephant off the ground, but it felt great. #NoRegrets.

Because I work on the computer, then spend more time on the computer…then live on the computer… it’s easy to forget there’s a world around me. There are books I can read. I started reading a book, guys. I also did a lot of home improvement crafts. Woo! But I’m back and with a New Years Resolution in mind. I normally don’t make these because I’m an openly admitted flake, but this year I want to get everything strategized and really fully develop my content calendar for Tiny Elephant.

Consistent content is king, contrary to all those articles you’ve been reading.

But back to business.

For my first post back I wanted to feature my favorite outfit of this past year. I want to address the Line + Dot Balloon Sleeve Sweater first. It’s freaking amazing. It’s quarter sleeve, so you don’t have to feel committed to a long-sleeve top and it’s got a really unique square neckline to keep your outfits interesting and out of bundled-up turtle neck area. I wear it….almost every day. I’ll admit it. But my favorite use for it is layering over my favorite skirts and maxi dresses. If you know anything about my style, you know that I love loud stuff.

I paired my sweater with this Donna Morgan Sierra Maxi (because the patterns are….RIDICULOUS-ly great). The dress itself feels pretty warm weather, so by pairing it with this black sweater it gave it a bit of color-block that made it feel more versatile through the seasons. For those of you who love a good maxi, but find they don’t have a lot of wearability – layering should be your BFF. With one little sweater, I can wear this maxi all year long. I hate wearing things the way they’re supposed to be worn. So, I easily transformed this maxi into a skirt and the sweater into a more fun piece by tying it up on the side to hit a higher waistline (hey, I’m short!).

As time goes by, you’ll probably see the bajillion other dresses I’ve tied this sweater over. Like I said, I wear it almost every day. And I bought it in both black and white. I wear the white less only because I don’t trust myself. I’m a messy, lost twenty-something. I can’t be trusted.

Like, Angel Olsen’s Heart Shaped Face, I think I’ve been feeling a lot of laid back vibes lately. Even though the maxi part of this outfit screams a little, it’s got just the right amount of groovy to throw on and go (especially with the sweater). This year is about change. I spent the last couple of weeks coasting, but I’m seeing bright things on the horizon and changes in the future.
